How to begin exercising past your 50s?

As women in our 50s, 60s or 70s it's important to prioritize our physical and mental health. Exercise can help us maintain a healthy weight, prevent chronic diseases, improve our mood and sleep, and increase our energy levels

Before starting any exercise routine, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure it's safe for you and to get any necessary clearance. Make sure you do this before joining any workout programs on the JM Control page as well. Once you have the green light, there are a few key things to keep in mind as you start your journey:

Find an activity you enjoy

Exercising should be something you look forward to, not something you dread. Whether it's dancing, swimming, hiking, or yoga, online classes - find an activity that you enjoy and that you can see yourself doing on a regular basis.

Start slow and build up gradually

If you're new to exercise or have been inactive for a while, it's important to start slow and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts. This will help you avoid injuries and make it more sustainable in the long run. If you’re looking for a thorough workout program - join my Complete Beginners workout program that is very gentle and is specifically tailored at women in their 50s, 60s and includes clear explanations on how to do each exercise correctly.

Mix up your routine

Don't be afraid to try new activities and switch things up. This will keep things interesting and help prevent boredom. For this, I highly recommend joining my JM Control online members club for women over 50 where I add new workouts every week & help you plan your fitness progress.

Find a workout buddy

Having a friend or loved one to exercise with can be a great source of motivation and accountability. It can also make workouts more enjoyable and social. You can also do these exercises together online - just agree on a set time and join each other on a camera! Alternatively, you can join my online coaching program where we exercise in a small group of ladies who are supporting and motivating each other.

Don't get discouraged

Exercise is a journey, not a destination. Don't get discouraged if you don't see immediate results or if you have setbacks along the way. The important thing is to stay consistent and keep moving forward. And in time you will start to feel better, stronger and more healthy.
